Richard R. Diede, 92
Funeral services for Richard
R. Diede were held on August 27 at First Presbyterian Church in Madison, S.D.
and burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Huron, S.D. with military honors.
Rev. Sandra Larson, Rev.
Dr. George Furniss and Rev. Laura Hauser-Jankord were the clergy present and
music was provided by Gary Randall, Jared Jankord and Robert Ellsworth.
Richard Raymond Diede was
born February 18, 1918 at Alpena, S.D. to John and Christine (Brenner) Diede and
he died August 24 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison, S.D. He graduated from
Virgil High School and Yankton College and Seminary. He was ordained in June of
1943 at Pierce. He attended the Pacific School of Religion at San Francisco and
Chaplin’s School at Harvard. He served as military chaplin during WWII with
General Patton’s third army in the tenth armored division. He was award the
bronze star and was honorably discharged as a captain.
Diede married Fern
Cranston on May 15, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He served various churches
in South Dakota, Nebraska, California and Arizona. He was also a state juvenile
protection officer. In later years, he enjoyed serving at the pulpit whenever
called upon. This included Canova Congregational Church and Madison First
Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church, Writer’s Guild, Madison Ministerial Association and
Eureka VFW. He was a lifetime member of P.T.A. and worked with the Boy Scouts.
His hobbies were restoring antique furniture and classic cars.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and two brothers, Edmund and Milbert.
Richard R. Diede is
survived by his wife, Fern of Madison, S.D.; three daughters, Yvonne (Jeff)
Jankord of Madison, S.D., Adella (Lloyd) Jones of Sacramento, Calif. and Shiela
Long of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Thomas "Tom" C. Knuth
A memorial gathering
for Thomas Carston Knuth will be held on Saturday, September 4 at 11 a.m. at the
Ashburn Funeral Home in Orchard.
Inurnment will follow at
11:30 a.m. at the Orchard Hill Cemetery in Orchard.
Thomas "Tom"
Carston Knuth passed away at the age of 59 on August 13, 2010 at Reche Canyon
Rehab and Hcc in Colton, Calif. He was born in Orchard on November 26, 1950 and
he was the eldest of three children. At a young age, the family moved from
Nebraska to Downey, Calif. where he started school.
He graduated from John A.
Rowland High School, Rowland Heights, Calif. in 1969. After graduation he
attended electrical trade school and Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
Knuth worked for Hughes
Aircraft as a maintenance supervisor for more than 34 years, during which time,
Hughes was acquired by Raytheon. He retired from Raytheon in December 2066 at
the age of 55.
From 1987 – 1998 he
coached little league baseball, dedicating numerous hours teaching young boys
the skills of the game and above all, sportsmanship. He enjoyed fishing, hunting
and league bowling. He was an avid Los Angeles Angels baseball and Lakers
basketball fan. He never missed a game. He lived a simple and happy life,
exhibiting patience with everything that came his way. He was a beloved son,
brother, uncle, friend and will be deeply missed by all whom his life touched.
He is preceded in death by
his father, Kermit H. Knuth.
Thomas C. Knuth is
survived by his mother, Amy A. Knuth of Emmett, Idaho; brother, Kevin E. Knuth
of Emmett, Idaho; sister, Catherine Burnside of Kirkland, Wash.; sister-in-law,
Sandra J. Knuth of Emmett, Idaho; nephews, Kyle D. Knuth of Parker, Colo., Brian
T. Knuth of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Eric M. Knuth of Parker, Colo. and plus many
aunts, uncles and cousins.
John Lynch
Memorial services were held March 5, 2010 for John “Jack” Raymond Lynch, Jr., Lieutenant, U.S. Navy, SEAL (retired) at the Brashear Catering and Conference Center at the Naval Amphibious Base (NAB) Little Creek in Virginia Beach,
Va.
A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Lynch joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served honorably for 22 years. He graduated from Underwater Demolition Team Replacement Traning BUD/s Class 29 and had a distinguished and diverse career as a U.S. Navy SEAL, Surface Warfare Officer, Saturation Diving and Salvage Officer and Navy
Parachutist.
After his career with the Navy, Lynch consulted with numerous organizations and, with his diverse areas of expertise, worked with sensitive government programs involved with national security and
anti-terrorism.
Lynch held a bachelor’s degree in business and was a commercial airline pilot, a Master Firearms Instructor and former Virginia Special Deputy Sheriff.
He took great pride in serving as president of the UDT/SEAL Association and as a member of the Naval Special Warfare Foundation. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of
Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Captain Jeanette (Frahm) Lynch, Nurse Corps, U.S. Navy (ret.); a daughter, Tisha Shelley and husband, Mark of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; son, Brett Lynch of Los Angeles, Ca.; daughter, Cady Pinell and husband, Stephen of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandson, Austin Shelley; three brothers and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and comrades worldwide.
